What is pillow block bearing?

Although its basic performance should be similar to that of deep groove ball bearings, because these bearings are mostly used in relatively rough machinery, the installation and positioning are not accurate enough, the axis alignment between the shaft and the seat hole is poor, or the shaft is long and deflected. In the case of large and other, and the bearing itself is not high enough precision, and some structures are relatively rough, so the actual performance of the deep groove ball bearing of the same specification should be marked with a considerable discount. For example: the outer spherical surface ball bearing with top wire is used in the through shaft with large stiffness difference and large deflection. This kind of bearing has sealing rings on both sides, which can strictly prevent the intrusion of dirt. It has been filled with an appropriate amount of lubricant before leaving the factory and does not need to be cleaned before installation. No need to add lubricant, when the top screw on the protruding end of the bearing inner ring is fastened on the shaft. The allowable axial load shall not exceed 20% of the rated dynamic load.

The pillow block bearing with eccentric sleeve has basically the same performance as the pillow block bearing with top wire, but the top wire is not on the inner ring, but on the eccentric sleeve. The inner hole of the tapered hole pillow block bearing is a tapered hole with a 1:12 taper, which can be directly installed on the tapered shaft, or installed on the shoulderless optical shaft with the help of a tight bushing, and can fine-tune the bearing clearance. Pillow block bearings are preferably used in applications requiring simple equipment and components, such as agricultural machinery, transportation systems or construction machinery.

If necessary, pre-interference installation can be performed to increase the rigidity of the bearing.

The choice of lubricant is an important factor in ensuring proper bearing operation and extending its service life. Lubricants do the following:

Makes movement easier; Avoids wear and material fatigue; Reduces internal friction; Ensures bearings are sealed from external objects; Reduces operating noise; Protects bearings from corrosion.

You have two options: grease or oil.

In general, grease lubrication is definitely the easiest and most efficient option because it has all of the above features and is less expensive to maintain. However, if your bearings are integrated in an oil lubricated machine, we recommend that you use the same lubrication system.

In any case, the choice of lubricant depends on three factors: load, type of operation (continuous or intermittent) and rotational speed.

If bearings are prone to high loads, operate continuously and rotate at high speeds, oil lubrication is the ideal solution to ensure the proper functioning of rolling systems.

Conversely, if the load is low and the speed is limited, then grease is sufficient.
