Causes and solutions for the overheating of pillow block flange bearing

The pillow block flange bearing should be refueled regularly according to the needs of the work. After the bearing is refueled, sometimes the temperature will be high, mainly due to excessive refueling. At this point, the temperature continues to rise. After reaching a certain point (generally about 10°C to 15°C higher than the normal working temperature), it will remain unchanged, and then gradually decrease.

1. Grease added to pillow block flange bearing is not as required or contaminated

When different types of grease are mixed, a chemical reaction may occur, causing the grease to deteriorate and agglomerate, reducing the lubricating effect. The pollution of the grease will also increase the temperature of the bearing. During the process of adding grease, dust will fall into it, causing oil pollution, resulting in the deterioration of the grease in the bearing housing, thereby destroying the bearing lubrication and increasing the service life of the bearing. Therefore, an appropriate grease should be selected.

2. Not enough heat dissipation

Check whether the pipeline is blocked, and whether the inlet water temperature and return water temperature exceed the standard. If the cooler is not suitable for use, the cooling effect is poor and cannot meet the requirements of use, it should be replaced in time or a new cooler should be installed in parallel. Axial induced draft fans should also check the insulation and sealing of the core barrel.

3. Check coupling alignment and bearings

Couplings must be aligned to workmanship standards. For axial-flow induced draft fans, hydraulic couplings, etc., the thermal expansion of the equipment during operation should also be considered. The impeller side of the induced draft fan expands due to heat, and the bearing housing rises. When the temperature of the fluid coupling increases, the bearing seat expands and the bearing rises. Therefore, the timing of the motor should be higher. The size of the reserve should be based on the characteristics of the equipment. Depends on operating temperature parameters.
